Privacy policy for GribBox
Jun 23, 2026

Introduction

GribBox is a browser-based tool for opening and converting scientific data files (GRIB, NetCDF, HDF5). This privacy policy explains what data is — and is not — handled when you use GribBox at gribbox.com.

The core principle behind GribBox is simple: your files are processed entirely on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers.

Your Files Stay On Your Device

When you open or convert a file with GribBox, the file is parsed locally in your browser using WebAssembly. The contents of your files are never transmitted to us or to any third party. We do not see, store, or have access to the scientific data you open.

Information We Collect

GribBox does not require an account to open and convert files, and we do not collect the contents of your files.

We may collect limited, non-identifying technical information to operate and improve the site, such as:

  • Aggregate usage and analytics: anonymous statistics about page views and which tools are used, to help us prioritize improvements.
  • Device and browser information: general technical details (such as browser type and operating system) needed to deliver a working, compatible experience.

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies and Local Storage

GribBox may use cookies or browser local storage to remember preferences such as your theme or language. These are stored on your device and are not used to identify you.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page.
